Barcelona's speakeasies hide behind a fridge door, inside hotels and in the Gothic Quarter. The best speakeasies in Barcelona begin with Paradiso, No. 1 on The World's 50 Best Bars 2022 and No. 17 on The 50 Best Bars 2026, where a refrigerator door in a pastrami shop opens onto a curved wooden ceiling. It now takes bookings, so you can skip the line. At the Barcelona EDITION, a spiral staircase leads to Punch Room, which ladles punch from vintage silver bowls. The Circle channels the 1920s, acts as Laphroaig's embassy in Spain and asks groups over six to prepay. At El Palace, Bluesman hosts jazz, blues and soul concerts. These are the bars we would start with.

Giacomo Giannotti's freezer-door speakeasy won the World's Best Bar title in 2022 and is No. 17 on The 50 Best Bars 2026 (No. 4 in 2025), with the Legend of the List Award, and the energy inside the wood-panelled room shows no sign of a post-victory fade. Cocktails arrive as multi-sensory experiences, explored through scientific and cosmic themes, built in the dedicated Paradiso Lab, and served in vessels that function as design objects. Giannotti now curates the Barcelona Cocktail Fest 2026, extending his influence beyond the bar and into the city's broader drinking culture.
Bluesman Cocktail Bar is the live-music bar of El Palace Barcelona on Gran Via, where the hotel books jazz, blues and soul concerts. It sits in the hotel's basement, in what was once the coal bunker, a red-walled room with a marble bar, velvet, and 1920s lamps, with a cigar club next door. Tables are booked ahead for the shows.
The Barcelona EDITION's speakeasy-style lounge pours punches from vintage silver bowls, leaning on Spanish spirits and the drink's history aboard the trade ships that once filled Barcelona's port. There's a Castilian pool table dressed in golden cloth, and Punch & Beats sessions on Fridays. The signature punches, EDITION, Fiery and Midnight, all €17, run from hibiscus gin with jasmine tea to mezcal with padrón and cayenne.
The Circle is a cocktail bar on the ground floor of the Hesperia Barri Gòtic on Carrer Ample, run as an independent project by an all-female bar team led by bar manager Génesis Gelvez, with Raiza Carrera advising on the concept. The room draws on 1920s speakeasies and old British lobby bars, with heavy curtains, a library wall, velvet armchairs and table lamps. Its signature list pairs each cocktail with a nod to women poets, alongside vintage-style classics, a world whisky selection and small plates. The bar is also Laphroaig's embassy in Barcelona and hosts whisky tastings.
