Hamburg's hotel bars range from old Alster grandeur to modern design. The best hotel bars in Hamburg start at a grand hotel on the Inner Alster, bought at auction in 1897, which pours in the city's smallest bar, beside the entrance, and in an Art Deco-style grill room whose premises date from 1926. In the Stadthöfe courts, a design hotel keeps a ground-floor cocktail bar by designer Stephen Williams. Farther up the lake, a white hotel framed by old trees runs a rooftop bar with a wraparound terrace and a 320-degree view. That rooftop bar takes no table reservations. Bar Noir is the ground-floor bar of the TORTUE design hotel on Stadthausbrücke, one of several bars under the same roof. Stephen Williams designed the room, which covers about 170 square meters, with a winter garden for cool nights and a terrace for mild ones. In the evening it becomes a meeting point for friends, colleagues and after-work drinks, and the hotel describes life inside moving at a more muted pace. The list pairs house creations such as the fruity Le Pont with classics like the Negroni, backed by wines, long drinks, spirits, liqueurs and beer.
