Portland, Oregon
Comala is a Mexico forward cocktail bar in northwest Portland, built as an homage to Mexican spirits. The back bar holds more than eighty six mezcales and keeps growing, though the house is clear that the aim is not the largest collection but an introduction to the people who produce the spirit. Education comes with every pour, and agave runs through the cocktail list alongside house infusions. The narrow, low lit room draws on the kind of spaces long associated with spirits, and food is prepared by the kitchen at Lilia Comedor. Doors open at 5pm Tuesday through Saturday, reservations are taken, and the room also hosts private parties.
