Graz, Austria
Weinbar Auenbrugger sits on Südtiroler Platz in one of the oldest houses of the old Murvorstadt quarter of Graz, a building already recorded in 1568 as the Schwarzmohrenwirt inn. The bar takes its name from Leopold Auenbrugger, born in this house in 1722, who tapped on wine barrels as a boy and later developed medical percussion. Today the historic 16th-century cellar is home to a list of more than 250 wines, from Austrian classics and international rarities to natural wines and mature vintages, with many of them poured by the glass. A short menu of plates for sharing, such as antipasti, cheese and beef tartare, plus changing daily dishes, keeps the wine at the center.
