Volstead's Emporium is a Prohibition era speakeasy on West Lake Street in the LynLake area of Minneapolis, reached through a hidden entrance rather than a street door. The basement room mixes vintage lighting, curtained booths and a stage, and the programming runs to live music, comedy and burlesque alongside the drinks. Cocktails follow the Prohibition theme, and the kitchen turns out plates designed to be shared across a long evening. Doors open Wednesday through Saturday in the early evening and stay open late at the end of the week. Reservations can be made for part of the night, though walk in guests are welcomed whenever the red light is on.
